Rebrand: Charlie & Jake’s

Confession.  Every time I complete a project it becomes my favorite project.

Though I have to say it might take a little bit for anything to top this rebrand project.  That is simply because I got to do so many things with this project and they were all so much fun!

First step of course was determining the mood and style of this rebrand through the moodboard:
Charlie-&-Jake's-Mood-Board
Charlie & Jake’s is a Barbecue restaurant near Florida’s Intracoastal Waterway that relocated this year (just down the street).  Along with the relocation the logo got a revamp.  The original Charlie & Jake’s logo was a bit whimsical and fun:

With the rebranding the owners where looking for a more modern design that would accompany the expanded menu.  We tried several variations with just a pig, with no pig and ultimately decided to incorporate both a big and a cow.  Here’s a look at a few of the options we explored as we worked through the design process:

I was so glad I didn’t have to be the one to choose the final logo.  I’m not sure I would have been able to decide!

But once the logo was chosen the real fun began!

This rebrand included giving the website a new look as well.  Be sure to check out the brand new Charlie & Jake’s site. In the mean time here is a look at the home page:

We’ve still have a few more printed items to wrap up so be sure to head to the portfolio because I’ll be adding the additional work there.

Since I live in Texas, no where near Charlie & Jake’s, someone go visit and tell me all about how amazing the food is!

Moodboard Monday: Projects in Progress

I’m currently working with several clients and on a project for myself that I’ll be sharing more details about down the road but for now, I wanted to share each projects’ moodboard and hope to inspire you with any projects you are working on.  I love how much variety there is in each project!

Family-Office-Management-Mood-Board

The above moodboard is for a branding and website design project for a wealth management company.  We are just about finished with this project and I can’t wait to share the design details and printed collateral.

Shiloh-Boutique-Moodboard

This moodboard is the branding of an online boutique.  This project is just getting started so it will be a little bit before I can share all of the details with you.

KOG-Promotions-Mood-Board

This moodboard is for a new KateOGroup project and needed to gather inspiration as I think through all the details and logistics of the project.  Stay tuned for more details on all 3 of these projects.

DIY Logo Design

DIY-Logo-Design

After deciding the name of your business, you need to begin the process of branding.  A logo is the first step toward branding your new business and it’s important you set yourself up for success even if you don’t have the money to hire a professional…yet.  I recommend hiring a professional to design your logo and help you create your brand, not just because that is what I do, but because they will have the experience needed to get you started on a strong foundation.

If you need to start with a DIY logo in the beginng then I have some suggestions to help you get started in the right direction.

Play it Safe

A black and white logo is the safest way to start.  Color can easily be introduced down the road.  Rather than having to rebrand later you could simply add color to your current logo that way you retain your established brand and the following you’ve work so hard to create for your brand.

Less is More

Don’t worry about incorporating a symbol or emblem just stick with a font initially.  Here’s where you have to make a decision: script, handwritten, serif or san serif?  Above all, make sure the font is easy to read.

Choosing-a-Font

Stay away from trends

Start with a clean and classic logo.  You can always add to the logo later and dress it up when you are ready to hire a designer to transform your logo with a brand design.

By the end of May, KateOGroup will be offering pre-designed logos that can be customized to fit your company name and to the colors of your choice.  These designs will only be sold once so you don’t have to worry about seeing it anywhere else!

Moodboard Monday: Homey

Whenever I’m brainstorming a new project, I like to start with a moodboard.  It really helps me to establish the direction and message for the upcoming design.  I haven’t meet with my clients yet, so I’m not sure this moodboard will be what I use going forward but still thought I’d share it incase it provide inspiration for someone else!

Homey_Moodboard

Through this moodboard I wanted to establish a “homey” feel with the opportunity for personal touches throughout the design.  This is the first step in a rebranding and website design.

Rebrand: Anders Group

I’ll confess that before working with the Anders Group on their rebrand, I didn’t really understand what a travel healthcare job was.  Essentially as a healthcare professional (nurse, therapist, etc) you take short term assignments that are approximately 13 weeks and your assignment could be anywhere in the US.  How cool is that?  You get paid to travel and experience living in different cities.  Anders Group does all the work finding assignments, getting you to the assignment and setting up a place for you to live.  If you know anyone interested in this type of job I highly recommend you look into Anders Group!

Because Anders Group already had a logo it was important to stick with the same color scheme and just give the logo a more up-to-date look but we didn’t want to completely abandon the original design.  Here is the final design they selected:

Once the logo was chosen it was time to get started on their marketing materials.  Designing the marketing pieces was my favorite part of this project.  Anders Group really wanted unique items that required out of the box thinking. Instead of a big brochure full of company information they opted for a folder with information sheets that could be customized for each event they attend.

Another part of the project was creating a brochure for the Anders Group.  Rather than a traditional tri-fold brochure we designed a square tri-fold brochure with a cutout on the front panel.
